An Air France 10th Anniversary promo went live today, December 1, 2015. This promo allows you to fly from a select group of cities to Europe for HALF of the normal miles!! To book this awesome rate, you must book between December 1-10 for travel between January 15 – March 15, 2016.
The following US-based airports are eligible for the promo:
- Washington DC (IAD)
- Atlanta (ATL)
- New York (JFK)
- Boston (BOS)
- Houston (IAH)
If you do not live near any of these airports, you could use your Southwest Companion Pass for a “positioning flight” for yourself and a companion. At 12,500 Flying Blue miles for a 1-way ticket, this is one of the cheapest reward tickets I’ve seen! Unfortunately, Air France does add taxes & fees of around $110 per one-way ticket. All considered, 25,000 miles + $220 (approx) is not bad for a round trip flight to Europe!
Additionally, Air France has a bit of a strange definition for their “Europe” zone. They include Tel Aviv, Istanbul, Moscow, and parts of North Africa within Europe! Thus, these cities are also eligible for the promo rate. One other way to capitalize on this promo is to use Europe as a “launch pad” for other parts of the world. For example, the following itinerary would hit Washington DC, Paris, Tel Aviv, Tokyo, Istanbul, and Boston! Six cities around the world for 65,000 miles and approximately $400!
IAD – CDG (14hr layover) – TLV – NRT – IST – BOS
Like most US-based travelers, you are probably not sitting on a pile of Air France Flying Blue miles. Fortunately, you can transfer Membership Rewards, Ultimate Rewards, or Starwood Points to Air France. MR’s and UR’s transfer at a 1:1 rate, unless you were targeted for a MR transfer bonus. If you choose to transfer Starwood points, you will get 25,000 Flying Blue Miles for 20,000 Starwood points! (Enough for a roundtrip flight to Europe!)
If you do not already have these transferrable rewards, you will likely not be able to earn them before the promo period ends. This highlights the importance of earning flexible points in advance. The following cards offer great bonuses to help you stock up before the next great offer!
- Ultimate Reward Points
- Chase Sapphire Preferred – 55,000 UR points (after adding AU)
- Chase Ink Plus – 60,000 UR points
- Chase Freedom – 17,500 UR points (after adding AU)
- Starwood Points
- Amex SPG Personal – 25,000 SPG points
- Membership Rewards Points
- Amex Incognito Offers – 15,000 – 100,000 MR points
I hope you are able to take advantage of this great promo from Air France! Book ASAP, because most promo fares disappear quickly. Where will you go??
