In this post we will cover two limited-time offers from Hilton Honors. The first is an opportunity to extend your Diamond Status for another year if you meet certain qualifications. This offer expires at the end of April, so act fast! The other is an offer from American Express that can earn 100,000 Hilton Honors points from a single credit card application! Follow along to learn more.
New Hilton Honors Program
Hilton recently rebranded (sort of) and expanded their loyalty program. They changed the name from Hilton HHonors to just Hilton Honors… hope they didn’t pay an ad agency too much for that innovation! They also added some new options for point redemptions, like point pooling among accounts, points + cash, and Amazon shopping. Along with these changes, they removed the standard award categories, allowing hotels to price their rooms dynamically. Higher demand = higher point cost.
I view these changes as an overall positive, especially the ability to pool points. Brooke and I have amassed a cache of Hilton Honors points through our American Express Surpass cards (more below), so it will be nice to pool those points for big redemptions. One additional perk is Diamond Status Extension, which is a very limited-time offer to get an extra year (or two) of Diamond status.
Diamond Status Extension
If your Hilton Diamond status expired at the end of March 2017, you may be in luck. The new Hilton Honors program is extending an olive branch to Diamond members, allowing a one-time extension of status until March 2018. To extend your status, you should visit this page by April 30, 2017, and make sure you meet the following qualifications:
- Diamond status expired March 2017
- Three total years of Diamond Status since joining Hilton Honors
- 250 total nights (paid or reward) or 500,000 base points earned since joining Hilton Honors
The third point will likely exclude most people who aren’t actually frequent travelers. I met all three qualifications, because I used to spend a ton of time on the road for work. After filling out the form on their website, I received an email confirming my Diamond status extension through March 2019…?? I’m not sure if this was a mistake by Hilton, or if they intended to offer a two-year extension, but I saved a screen shot just in case.
If you don’t meet the requirements, I still recommend sending a request. You may get lucky and be approved for a status extension. The worst they can say is, “Nah!” Make sure you send the request by April 30, 2017.
100,000 Hilton Honors Points
Around the same time that the Hilton Honors program expanded, American Express increased the offer on their Hilton Honors Surpass card to 100,000 points. This is nearly the highest offer ever for this card. (It briefly hit 120,000 last year for a very targeted audience.) While Hilton points aren’t the most valuable points in the game, this offer is quite strong. Brooke and I both picked up the card for the 100,000 point bonus.
We’ve used our Hilton Honors points for a penthouse in Dubai, a luxury resort in Maui, an overwater bungalow in French Polynesia, and a manor house in Scotland. This offer will only be available through July 26, 2017, but it could potentially be pulled at any time. To earn the points, you must spend $3,000 in the first 90 days and pay a $75 annual fee. If you have traveling companions, encourage them to apply as well, because you can pool your points for an incredible vacation! Grab the 100,000 points while you can! [Apply Here]
Be sure to take advantage of these two limited-time offers from Hilton while you have the chance. Diamond status has been great for us over the years. We’ve gotten upgrades, free drinks, free parking, and my favorite – free breakfast! Grab the 100,000 points from the Amex Hilton Honors Surpass card, and loop your friend in on the deal too. Combine all of your points to visit some exotic resort. Cheers!
