Swimsuits are a cornerstone of a good packing list. Let’s be honest, most of the best vacations are to tropical destinations. That means, you will need at least one swimsuit for your trip, so you may as well find the best option. I think Harmonqlo brings a great product to the table, in this quick-dry, lightweight, comfortable suit.
What is Harmonqlo?
Harmonqlo founder, Joseph Cohen, reached out to me via email to let me know about his new product. He is launching via Kickstarter, and the campaign has already received nearly 10x the goal amount! It wraps up on April 3, 2019, so don’t miss out.
The goal for Harmonqlo is to create the next wave of men’s and boy’s swim trunks, without breaking the bank. Joseph sent me a sample of the trunks to test and evaluate, and they’re remarkable!
Features
The features of the Harmonqlo swim trunks make them pretty ideal for travel. These are the specs that I found most important:
Hydrophobic Nanotech
Science-talk for water-resistant and quick-dry. Water literally beads off of these. The Harmonqlo website even claims you can use these shorts as a cup, without any water getting through! I was skeptical, so I tested it out… and it actually works! Don’t get me wrong, I won’t be drinking from my swim trunks often, but this is pretty cool.
Quick-dry clothing is essential for a good travel wardrobe. It allows you to dry quickly after sweating, swimming, or being caught in the rain. It also allows you do do laundry and have dry clothes overnight. Harmonqlo claims that these will dry up to 5x faster than regular trunks.
4-Way Stretch Fabric
Comfort, comfort, comfort! I have gotten very picky with my fabrics recently. Anything without substantial stretch just doesn’t make the cut anymore. These shorts have stretch for days! They also have a flattering cut, so the stretch lets you look good, while remaining comfy.
Lightweight
Harmonqlo’s trunks clock in at a feather-light 5.75oz. With OneBag travel, every ounce counts!
Comfort Mesh
The mesh liner in men’s trunks is a topic of much debate. I’ve usually been in the no-liner camp, because mesh liners usually squeeze or rub, causing discomfort. Not in this case. The mesh is super-fine and very soft. No worries here.
Fun Patterns or Plain Color
I typically lean toward muted clothing for travel, so the Sulawesi version seems like a great dual purpose choice. It can be worn for swimming, or for exploring a city, without standing out as a tourist.
However, the patterns on these shorts are pretty great! I couldn’t resist the Tahiti version, with the little turtles on them.
Final Thoughts
Harmonqlo has really created something great here. I’m very impressed with the hydrophobic fabric and the high level of comfort. These shorts will be in my bag for all vacations going forward! Which print is your favorite?
